The City of Modesto offers a landscape rebate program to encourage residents and businesses to replace water-thirsty grass lawns with drought-tolerant alternatives. This initiative helps conserve water while enhancing property aesthetics. Below are the key details of the program.
Program Overview
Participants can receive a rebate of $2 per square foot for converting grass areas into qualifying drought-resistant landscapes. Maximum rebate amounts are:
- Residential Accounts: Up to $3,000 per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
- Commercial Accounts: Up to $6,000 per fiscal year.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for Modesto’s landscape rebate, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Water Utility Customers: You must pay your water utility bill to the City of Modesto and have an account in good standing.
- Property Tenants: Tenants must obtain written approval from the property owner or manager.
- Existing Turf: At the time of pre-inspection, the area slated for conversion must have existing grass or traditional sprinklers intact.
