There is no universal rule that non-infill turf sheds more or less fiber than every infilled turf system.
The comparison depends on the complete turf construction.
In an infilled system, sand or other infill can support the fibers and influence how the surface responds to traffic. A non-infill system instead relies more heavily on the design of the yarn, tufting, backing, coating, cushion and installation.
Therefore, comparing only whether a product is “infill” or “non-infill” is insufficient.
For buyers, the more meaningful questions are:
- What yarn is being used?
- What is the tuft density?
- How are the tufts anchored?
- What is the backing construction?
- What testing has been conducted?
- How does the product perform after accelerated aging?
- What is the documented wear performance?
- What installation specification is required?
