How Vivaturf Non-Infill Turf Creates Stable Grip

Vivaturf non-infill turf does not rely on sand or rubber granules to create traction. Instead, it uses a complete structural system to control contact, friction, drainage, and force distribution.

2.1 Biomimetic Straight-and-Curled Yarn Matrix

Vivaturf uses a straight-and-curled yarn structure, commonly engineered around a 7:3 ratio.

The 70% high-modulus straight fibers create a stable support framework. These fibers help the turf remain upright and provide consistent contact between the shoe outsole and the turf surface. This is especially important for sprinting, stopping, cutting, and lateral movement.

The 30% high-resilience curled fibers fill the space between the straight fibers. They help provide controlled cushioning, additional surface contact, and recovery after compression. This reduces the risk of the surface becoming too hard, too slippery, or uneven over time.

Together, the two yarn types create a balanced surface that can maintain controlled friction without relying on loose infill.

2.2 Non-Infill Surface Uniformity

Traditional infill turf depends on sand and rubber granules. Over time, these materials can move, compact, splash, or accumulate in certain areas. This can create traction variation, especially in high-traffic zones.

Vivaturf non-infill turf removes this issue by eliminating loose infill. The surface is created by the engineered turf structure itself, helping reduce problems such as:

  • Infill migration
  • Local compaction
  • Overly slippery low-infill areas
  • Overly aggressive compacted areas
  • Rubber granule splash
  • Dust and particle movement

This helps the field maintain a more uniform traction profile over its service life.

2.3 Hydrophobic Design for Wet Traction

Wet surfaces can become unsafe when a water film forms between the shoe and the field. Vivaturf addresses this with hydrophobic yarn and system drainage design.

The yarn surface can reach a water contact angle of ≥90°, allowing water to move away from the surface more efficiently. Combined with a properly designed drainage base and backing system, this helps reduce surface water retention and supports more stable wet-condition grip.

Under wet conditions, Vivaturf non-infill turf can maintain a friction coefficient of ≥0.50, with wet-to-dry variation controlled within ≤0.10.

2.4 Stable Backing and Force Distribution

Traction is not only determined by the top yarn layer. The backing and shockpad also influence how the foot interacts with the field.

Vivaturf uses a reinforced backing system and a stable cushioning layer to distribute force more evenly. This helps prevent localized yarn collapse, surface soft spots, and inconsistent shoe contact. When the turf structure remains stable, friction feedback also remains more consistent.
