The plastic used to make synthetic grass blades matters more than most people realize. Different materials change how your lawn looks, how it feels underfoot, and how many years it lasts. There are three main types.
- Polyethylene material is the most popular choice for realistic artificial grass. It’s soft to the touch, has a natural green color, and is strong enough for most yards. It gives you the best mix of a real look and a soft feel.
- Nylon is the strongest material. It bounces back very well after being stepped on. This makes it a great choice for busy areas, pet turf, or sports fields. The only downsides are that nylon feels a bit stiff and costs more. It’s often used for special projects like backyard putting greens.
- Polypropylene is the cheapest material, but it’s not very strong. It’s not a good choice for a whole lawn. But its texture is perfect for the brown thatch that’s mixed in with the stronger green blades. Since the material directly impacts the look, feel, and durability, this choice is a critical step in selecting the right artificial turf for your home.
